During your stay at the centre the group will be involved in a variety of activities. The programme will depend on your primary aims for bringing the group to the centre.
The best time to phone is Monday between 9 and 12. 015396 21161
The head of centre will want to know :
1. Age group, size of group, number of boys/girls
2. Name of organising member of staff
3. Other staff involved
4. Purpose of the week, i.e.:
- specific field work
- curriculum development
- social personal development
- any other objectives
5. Time of arrival. Time of departure.
6. Any other information which you think might be helpful to the Head of centre.
Once the centre has this information, the Head of Centre will devise a programme, which will run from 09h00 each day until 17h00 each night. The centre prefers the programme to be the result of joint consultation between staff, Head of Centre and students. However, the Head of Centre can be directive if staff are unsure or lack knowledge or confidence. The group leader has overall responsibility for the care of the young people during the visit. This includes night time supervision. The Head of centre's role is to provide support and advice.
The staff role on the programme is to assist in its operation. Every morning, prior to a meeting with the students, the staff will meet. At this meeting the day's activities are discussed, safety guidelines considered and the organization outlined.
A meeting is then held with the students, where they are informed of the day's programme, what equipment they require and any other details. If there are issues of conduct, bad behaviour etc. to be raised, this is the forum at which it is discussed.
The programme might include a variety of the following :
- Rock climbing
- Raft building
- Gorge scrambling
- Waterfalls Walk
- Mountain walking
- Zip Wire
- Group Development Projects
- Field Work
