Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions
We can offer you support to deliver your Bronze Silver or Gold Expeditions on foot or by Open Canoe.
We can run training from our centre with expeditions into The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Howgills or you can talk to us about doing something further afield.
Our staff have experience of working with DofE groups at all levels in different parts of the country and can organise a training package to complement the preparation you are able to carry out yourselves.
We will review and develop participants understanding of all aspects of the expedition:
- Use of Stoves
- Food and Hygiene
- Kit and Equipment
- First Aid
- Emergency Procedures
- Route Planning
- Practical Navigation
We can design a training course to suit you including a practice expedition. The length of the course will depend on the amount of preparation work you are able to carry out yourselves but typically we would offer:
- Bronze - 3 days
- Silver - 4 days
- Gold - 5 days
We can help you with providing supervision and assessment for your qualifying expeditions. We can design packages to include:
- Bronze - 2days, 1 night
- Silver - 3 days, 2 nights
- Gold - 4 days, 3 nights
It may be necessary to add preparation and debrief time to these courses.
Our staff can advise you on suitable areas and objectives for your expeditions and act in either a supervisor or assessor role as required.
Many groups are able to organise their own expeditions but perhaps need additional expertise when it comes to Silver or Gold Awards. Our staff have the appropriate technical qualifications to act in a supervisor or assessor role for practice or qualifying expeditions.
We can give you advice on routes and campsites to help you fill out your Green Forms.
We have a full range of Expedition equipment to support your expedition by Canoe or On Foot.
Longrigg can act as your technical advisor to give you advice and support for the expedition element if you are a Directly Licensed Centre.
We run a range of National Governing Body Awards such as Hill and Moorland Leader and the new Lowland Leader suitable for staff working on Silver and Bronze expeditions - Find out more by looking at our Courses
Talk to us about your group and their requirements so we can give you the assistance you need.
